Father says he is 'no hero' after attacking daughters' abuser Larry Nassar

The angry father who lunged at disgraced US sports doctor Larry Nassar in a Michigan courtroom has publicly apologised saying he's "no hero".

Randall Margraves also said he was remorseful after trying to attack the doctor.

The outburst came after Mr Margraves heard two of his daughters tell the court about their sexual abuse at the hands of Nassar. A third daughter also says she was abused by the doctor, Yahoo News 7 reported.

Mr Margraves was tackled by sheriff's deputies and said he lost control when it appeared that Nassar was shaking his head during his daughters' statements.

Video emerged of the emotionally charged moment when Randall Margraves had to be held back by police, after leaping across a table at Nassar on Friday.

It was the third sentencing for the former doctor who sexually assaulted and molested dozens of girls. He's already been sentenced to up to 175 years in prison on the charges, and another 60 years for child porn charges.

"I would ask you to, as part of the sentencing, grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon," Mr Margraves asked the judge after heading his daughter's victim statement.

"Would you do that? Yes or no?

"Will you give me one minute?"

When the judge declines, Mr Margraves suddenly moves towards Nassar.

"Well I'm gonna have it."

His daughters are visibly upset as their father leaps at Nassar, reaching across the table he was sitting at as security tried to protect him.

Mr Margraves is quickly pulled off and pushed to the ground, before being taken into custody, swearing and yelling as he goes.

"Give me just one minute with that bastard," he says.

Mr Margraves was released a few hours later. No charges were laid because of his emotional state at the time, having only heard his daughters' victim statements for the first time in court moments before the attack.
