An Australian cameraman has captured the moment he was assaulted and abused by a group of teenagers.

7News cameraman Allen Taylor was driving along Ferry St in Maryborough, Queensland when he saw a group of teenage boys beating up a younger boy.

Mr Taylor started filming the group and quickly became their new target as the group crossed the road and started hurling abuse at him.

The boys threw their skateboards and yelled abusive comments at Mr Taylor.

One boy yelled, "Come on yah maggot let's have a crack... get over here you f**king dog".

Another boy picked up a steel plate, throwing it toward Mr Taylor, hitting him in the shin.

"I'm pretty sure I can see bone but there's not a lot of flesh there, off to the doctors, stitches I guess," he told 7News afterwards.

He says he made a formal complaint to police who were disgusted by the young men's behaviour.

"I hope someone goes and talks to them, let them know that if their going to keep going around with this pack mentality that it's not going to work out for them they're going to end up in jail or juvey [juvenile detention]."

Police say is not acceptable for anyone to be abused, especially those who are trying to help.
