A Catholic Michigan couple is expecting their 14th child after having 13 sons.

Kateri and Jay Schwandt's sons range in age from 25 to just two, but that didn't stop them from adding another to the brood, The Associated Press reports.

The new addition is expected in April, but the couple won't be finding out the sex of the baby until it's born.

Mr Schwandt hopes it's a girl, but at this point he's not sure he will ever have a daughter.

"I would love to have a girl, but I just don't think it's in the cards," he told the Wood-TV.

This is, however, expected to be the couple's last child, after having a baby or toddler in the house since they were students at Ferris State University.

Ms Schwandt isn't sure how their Rockford, Michigan home would feel like without a baby boy in it.

She says the home is pure chaos regardless of the number of children, and that after the third child she's become use to the hectic nature of life with 13 boys.

"If you have three, it's the same as having 10 at this point, if you ask me.

"It's just more chaos, more noise. It's nothing we're not used to at this point."

The couple's current children are called Tyler, Zach, Drew, Brandon, Tommy, Vinnie, Calvin, Gabe, Wesley, Charlie, Luke, Tucker and Francisco.
