Aussie MP Rachel Carling-Jenkins on finding child porn on husband's laptop

An Australian MP has opened about about the heartbreaking moment she found a stash of child pornography on her husband's laptop.

Australian Conservative MP Dr Rachel Carling-Jenkins, a devout Christian, told SBS program Insight about the devastating discovery on her now ex-husband Gary Jenkins' laptop.

Dr Carling-Jenkins revealed the details in Parliament last year, 18 months after initially reporting it to police.

She told of her husband's addiction, and how she found the images he kept in her son's company within the family home.

She said she suspected her husband might be having an affair, and in February 2016, logged on to her husband's computer - and was completely devastated by what she saw.

"I saw a number of icons on the screen, and I could see small images ... some were photos and some were videos and I started to click on them to see what it was," she said.

"They were all of children and all of little girls. I saw child rape."

After finding the images, she left the family home and the marriage ended.

Dr Carling-Jenkins told Insight how she met her husband online, and the two were drawn together because of their strong Christian values.

Gary Jenkins was sentenced to four months in prison in March last year for possession of child pornography. He is a registered sex offender and will have to report to police for the next eight years.
