Boy bullied for cleft lip, different coloured eyes, adopts cat with matching conditions

An Oklahoma boy who was bullied for having different coloured eyes and a cleft lip has found a fluffy companion with matching rare conditions.

Madden Humphreys has heterochromia iridum, a condition making each eye a different colour that affects less the 1 percent of the population. He was also born with a cleft lip, an even rarer condition.

The 7-year-old is often bullied at school, but doesn't feel so alone now that he has a new pet cat that also has both heterochromia iridum and a cleft lip.

What's more is that the cat's left eye is blue and his right is green, exactly matching Madden.

Madden's mother Christina Humphreys told Love What Matters they were "destined to be best friends".

"Last week, a friend posted an image of the cat in our cleft moms group. This kitty was taken in by a rescue group in Minnesota. We knew immediately that this kitty was meant to be part of our family."

Her family made the trip from their hometown in Oklahoma to Minnesota last Monday (local time) to adopt the cat.

"We're usually not spontaneous people, but we knew that we were meant to love this kitty. Moon, the kitty, and Madden are the perfect companions for each other.

"In a world full of bullies and hateful words, we will choose to chase love. I think it's safe to say that this kitty is love, and was certainly meant to be part of our journey and Madden's journey," she told Love What Matters.

"These two handsome guys truly are a wonder."

She wrote on Facebook that the cat, named Moon, is slowly adjusting to the family.

Madden and Moon are detailing their friendship on Instagram.
