John Oliver buys Russell Crowe's memorabilia for Alaskan video store

Fancy a jockstrap worn by Russell Crowe? Talk show host John Oliver certainly did.

The host of late night talk show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver has admitted to purchasing a jockstrap from Crowe's 2005 boxing film Cinderella Man.

The attire was brought from Crowe's recent divorce auction, a sell-off which saw the Australian actor get rid of a range of artwork, jewellery and movie props.

Oliver revealed his bizarre purchase in a segment looking at one of the last remaining Blockbuster video stores in Alaska.

The English comedian had the idea he could help keep the video store alive by sending them film memorabilia.

"If only there were a fun movie themed way for them to draw people in," Oliver said.

He went on to unveil the jockstrap and other "pointless Russell Crowe memorabilia" such as a vest he wore in 2012's Les Miserable.

"I can think of no more fitting place for them to reside than an Alaskan Blockbuster," he said.

Oliver then addressed the Alaskan Blockbuster by saying they were welcome to the items and that they should get in touch.

"Just call us in the next 48 hours and we will send it to you."
