A drunk Estonian tourist had a unexpected ending to his night out when he accidentally climbed a mountain in the Italian Alps instead of heading back to his hotel.

The 30-year-old man, known as Pavel, was on vacation in Cervinia, a resort in Italy's Valle d'Aosta when he became disorientated in the early hours of the morning.

Thinking the snow-covered street he was walking led back to his hotel, he found himself instead ascending a mountain, reports Italy's La Stampa.

The path led Pavel to a mountainside ski run, which he clambered his way up before breaking into a bar named Igloo at the top.

A search party failed to find Pavel - he was eventually discovered by bar staff the following morning, asleep on one of the bar's benches.

Local police have reportedly said he will be fined for his drunken antics but will not be charged.
