A man from the United Kingdom has opened up about the horrific abuse he faced at the hands of a controlling ex-girlfriend.

Alex Skeel, 22, was stabbed, burned, forbidden from speaking to his family, banned from his partner's bed and told what to wear during his relationship with Jordan Worth, also 22, the MailOnline reports.

Worth has now been jailed for seven and a half years for coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship, wounding with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The couple began dating when they were teenagers in drama school and that's where the abuse began.

"She was probably only girl I ever felt was interested in me. I never had that before. But she clearly used my history to her advantage to go on and do what she did," Mr Skeel told the MailOnline.

"She would constantly say that this was the way to do things. And because I was wooed by her, flattered, I believed her. But it wasn't normal. She wanted to basically change who I was."

After three years of mental abuse Worth began physically attacking Mr Skeel using any weapon she could get her hands on.

"It started off with little things with her just hitting me, and punching me and then it got to her having a bottle in her hand," Mr Skeel said.

"And every time I removed a weapon, she would go onto the next one and it led to being hit with hammers, getting stabbed with knives and having boiling water thrown over me."

Mr Skeel is now attending a group for domestic violence victims and would like to help others by setting up his own group for battered men.

Worth appears to have entered a new relationship with another man.

A restraining order prevents her from contacting Mr Skeel.
