'Careless' Chinese couple appear to leave child trapped in locker

A Chinese couple have come under fire after a video published on social media appears to show them leaving their child trapped inside a locker at a public bathhouse.

The video shows the child crying as it's taken out of the locker by an unnamed woman who appears to be the child's mother. The woman is accompanied by a man who could be the child's father.

Chinese website Kan Kan News alleges the couple left the child (it's unknown if the child is a boy or girl) in the locker while they bathed at the bathhouse.

Although the child doesn't appear to show signs of suffocation after being freed from the locker, the infant appears to be visibly upset.

A female staff member, who steps in to help open the locker, appears to be shocked when the couple reveal the infant that was trapped inside the locker.

The video has caused uproar on Chinese social media platforms such as Weibo, with many people labelling the alleged parents "careless" and "irresponsible".

"How careless could the parents be?" a social media user said.

"How scared the child must have been after being left in such a dark and small space," another said.

Other social media users have called for the alleged parents to have their guardianship of the child stripped, if their actions are confirmed.

A New Zealand woman has also come under fire for leaving her baby outside while she gambled at Rawene Masonic Hotel in the Far North.

The owner of the hotel, Glen Dick, told the AM Show on Monday that he plans to have the pokie machines removed.
