At least two people are dead and five injured during a frenzied knife attack in Paris.
It's believed police have shot and killed the attacker, who was stabbing people in the Opera district of central Paris.
Witnesses say there was panic as people tried to hide in restaurants and cafes.
"I was having a drink with a friend and we heard a 'boom boom'," said one witness. "I thought it was gunshots. I went out and I saw a bloke lying on the ground. After that we rushed back into the bar."
Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the alleged attacker was "neutralised" by police and praised officers for their actions.
Witnesses say he was shouting "Allahu Akbar", Arabic for "God is great" during the attack.
French police warned the public not to spread rumours on social media.
