Cops in Oklahoma have accidentally run over the suspect they were pursuing.

The Tulsa Police Department released video captured on both dashcam and bodycam showing the dramatic climax of a 15-minute car chase down a major highway earlier this week.

They were in pursuit of Kayla Shelton, 31, who was driving a stolen pickup truck.

During the chase down the I-44, Shelton came close to sideswiping several other vehicles. At one point she reached speeds of more than 160km/h.

Officers say the chase came to an end when Shelton ditched the truck and ran across the street - right into the path of an oncoming police car.

"Don't hit her, don't hit her, don't hit her," one officer can be heard saying to the driver during the video.

But the car hit her, knocking her to the ground.

"I didn't mean to hit her," the officer in the driver's seat can be heard saying immediately after the accident.

Shelton suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital before jail.

She faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, as well as endangering others while eluding police.
