Are school shooting drills good preparation or paranoia?

US President Donald Trump and the NRA have pushed schools in the United States to arm their teachers after a series of shootings this year.

Two-thirds of school districts across the country were already conducting active shooter drills, running children through a simulated worst-case scenario.

So is it being prepared, or just being paranoid?

The drills mark a changing job description for teachers, who are increasingly being required to take part in active shooter drills.

However there remains some controversy over whether they are just making children scared, or actually keeping them safe.

Last week, a US mother's image of a 'lockdown' poem her kindergarten-age child was told to learn went viral, and split internet users over its appropriateness.
