A Florida man has been arrested after telling a Facebook group if he got enough likes, he would commit a mass shooting at Disney World.

Derek Eitel, 23, lived about an hour's drive from Disney World in the Florida town of Cocoa, ABC News reports.

According to his arrest report he wrote: "5 likes and I'll go shoot up Disney and hang myself".

He later admitted he made the post while on break at his work.

The post was visible to the nearly 850 members of the Facebook group and two of them reported it to the police, leading to Eitel's arrest. Local police have elected not to name the group.

He's now being held on a charge of making written threats to kill or do bodily harm. His bond has been set at US$100,000 (NZ$143,408).
