A US man has been arrested on a range of charges after three dead bodies were discovered at his home - mere hours after police tried to pull him over because of a broken taillight.

Stewart Weldon from Springfield, Massachusetts tried to flee police, but was eventually stopped by authorities.

The 40-year-old was taken into custody after a woman, who was crying uncontrollably in the car's passenger seat, accused him of kidnapping, beating and raping her over the course of a month.

"Thank you guys for saving my life - I didn't think I was ever going to get away," she reportedly told officers.

The woman was taken to hospital with a number of serious injuries, and remains there.

After an extensive search at Weldon's house, they incredibly uncovered three dead bodies in a detached garage and the house's basement, MassLive reports.

The Republican reports more are believed to be on the property. The bodies are yet to be formally identified.

Weldon has an extensive criminal history, having already been charged with rape and assault with a dangerous weapon.

A child who lived in the home has now been removed from the premises. It is not known what their relation is to Weldon.
