An admitted Nazi paedophile who has served time behind bars for threatening to kill Barack Obama is running for US Congress.

Nathan Larson, 37, is running as an independent for Virginia's 10th congressional district. He says he wants to end the war on drugs, pull the US out of foreign wars, get rid of all gun regulations, make women property of men, restore white supremacy, legalise child pornography and get rid of age restrictions on marriage.

He told US news and opinion site The Huffington Post a "lot of people are tired of political correctness and being constrained by it".

"People prefer when there's an outsider who doesn't have anything to lose and is willing to say what's on a lot of people's minds."

What's on Larson's mind is what's made headlines in the US, with mainstream news outlets Newsweek, USA Today and the Washington Post all picking up the story.

The Huffington Post reports Larson used to run pro-paedophile websites, in which he regularly endorsed child rape and sexual abuse.

He reportedly has a three-year-old daughter he lost in a custody battle with his ex-wife, who later committed suicide.

Elsewhere in his manifesto, Larson blames school shootings on "feminists", praises Adolf Hitler and empathises with the online 'incel' movement - incel being short for "involuntary celibate".

Larson was jailed in 2008 for 14 months after he threated to kill Mr Obama and outgoing President George W Bush, and was banned from seeking public office. But in 2016, the Governor of Virginia overturned the ban on convicted felons from seeking office, allowing Larson to run again.

The Huffington Post said he ran for Virginia's House of Delegates District 31 in 2017 and managed to secure nearly 2 percent of the vote.

He's more confident about his chances this time around, saying people are "open-minded" and that he's been inspired by the success of Donald Trump.

"A lot of people who disagreed with someone like Trump... might vote for them anyway just because the establishment doesn't like them."
