A 22-year-old from the UK has died after stabbing himself in the chest to prove his jacket was stab proof.

Jordan Easton, plunged a knife into his chest while he was hanging out with friends in August 2017, falsely believing his jacket would stop the knife, Teeside Live reports.

"While in the kitchen, he took hold a knife to demonstrate it was stab-proof and sadly realised it wasn't the case," assistant coroner Karin Welsh said.

Emergency services tried in vain to stop the bleeding but were ultimately unsuccessful.

Witnesses to the coronial enquiry said Mr Easton had been killed during "a boisterous act" and his death was ruled a misadventure.

The police said while he may have had problems in the past he had settled down. There was no evidence he intended to harm himself during the incident.

"[Its] hard to believe the concept that Jordan would consciously do that," his mother Alison Price told the inquest.
