A former US Teacher of the Year has been charged with sexual assault after allegedly groping and having sex with multiple students.

Spencer Herron, 48, was arrested last week after teaching for 15 years at Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was awarded Teacher of the Year during the 2016-2017 school year.

The warrant for his arrest states that Herron groped one student and repeatedly had sex with two others, the Daily Mail reports.

According to Channel 2 Action News, this included multiple occasions of unprotected sex.

The warrant also reportedly states Herron had sex with one student after she said "she did not want to continue".

Another alleged victim claims Herron demanded she "be quiet" when she started crying.

"The district is aware of the allegations and has been cooperating fully with the police investigation," a spokesperson for the school district told media.

Herron has been held on bail.
