American Eagle has been praised for the launch of its new Aeries underwear campaign, which includes women in wheelchairs, models with vitiligo and various other conditions.

The #AerieReal campaign encouraged models that had disabilities and illnesses to apply, and in the ads, none of the women were airbrushed.

The contest for the campaign asked women to describe what #AerieReal meant to them.

One woman who suffers from multiple disabilities told Huffington Post she thought chronic illness was underrepresented in media and that beauty should come in all shapes and sizes.

Others agreed, saying it was the first time they had been represented in the media, one of the models describing the experience as a powerhouse, working with women who had similar illnesses.
