Belfast suffers hijacked bus, bomb scare in night of terror

A bus was hijacked and set alight in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Wednesday in just one of many disorderly incidents that struck the city throughout the night.

A group of masked men, one carrying a gun, hijacked a bus before setting it on fire and blocking a main road for hours, reports The Mirror.

The Belfast Telegraph understands no passengers were on board at the time.

It was just one of a spate of separate incidents in Belfast, which also include reports of suspicious devices being found in multiple locations.

No link has been found between each incident, but the trouble occurred on Eleventh Night, an annual Ulster Protestant celebration.

Although bonfires are traditionally lit, East Belfast Ulster Volunteer Force said it "intended to orchestrate serious disorder" against police.

While dealing with burning tyres blocking roads and evacuating homes in the area of a "suspect car", the Northern Ireland Police Service appealed for calm.

It later tweeted that one of the suspicious objects had been declared a hoax.
