A five-year-old boy was written his own heartbreaking obituary before dying of a rare cancer.

In September, Garrett Matthias, from Iowa, was diagnosed with stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in September.

Since then Garrett, also known as Great Garrett Underpants, was undergoing intense radiation and chemotherapy.

He passed away last Friday, but was able to write his own obituary with the help of his parents Ryan and Emilie.

"That's him speaking. Those are his words verbatim," Ryan Matthias told WHO.

"When I read it, I'm just like 'wow.' Sounds like Garrett just yapping at me."

He started his obit by naming himself "Garrett Michael Boffias" as he believed his surname was hard to pronounce.

"I am 5 years old. My address is: I am a Bulldog! My favourite colour is: Blue and Red and Black and Green," in the obit read.

He also listed some of his favourite things which included spending time with his sister and grandparents, and superheroes Batman and Thor.

He also listed some of his least favourite things which included his "dirty, stinking cancer" and needles and doctors.

Garrett said when he died he was going to become a Gorilla and "throw poo at Daddy".

And finished his obit with "See ya later, suckas!  The Great Garrett Underpants".

A GoFundMe page has been started to help cover Garrett's funeral expenses.
