'Humble' student dead after online date gone wrong in Melbourne

A Melbourne man has been killed after meeting a woman he arranged to meet online.

Indian student Maulin Rathod, 25, died Tuesday night at Sunshine Hospital after being found critically injured on Monday night.

A 19-year-old woman faces serious charges related to Mr Rathod's death, according to reports.

It's understood Mr Rathod had gone to meet the woman at a house in Sunbury in west Melbourne, after the pair had arranged to meet through an internet dating website.

The house where they arranged to meet was a supported residential service visited frequently by carers.

According to neighbours, police have often been called to the residence responding to complaints of loud noise and sometimes violent disturbances there.

The woman was arrested at the scene and faced Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday night.

She has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, and it is expected police will upgrade those charges to either manslaughter or murder, in light of Mr Rathod's death.

The man was living in Australia on a student visa, and has been described as a "very humble personality" by his friends.

Together they are raising money to have his body returned to his parents in India.
