An American woman's cold-hearted response from her boss has gone viral after she said she couldn't come into work because her son was gravely ill.

Crystal Reynolds Fisher from Michigan posted pictures to Facebook of the texts she sent two days before her shift at a PS Food Mart.

She couldn't come to work because her son Jason, 18, was on life support with suspected cellulitis sepsis.

After she explained this, her boss said if she didn't come to work she would no longer have a job.

"That isn't how we do things, so I'll accept that you're quitting," a response from her boss read.

Her Facebook post has since been shared over 70,000 times.

As a result of the texts going viral, the woman has kept her job, and the manager has been fired.

"We took quick action and that manager is no longer employed by PS Food Mart.

"We have also reaffirmed to our employee that she will be able to take all the time off that she needs during this difficult period. We'd like to thank the public for their concern."
