The Las Vegas McDonald's worker at the centre of a violent brawl caught on camera has spoken out about the incident.

The footage, uploaded to Facebook and Instagram by Las Vegas resident Marie Dayag, shows a customer hurling a milkshake and a tray at a female staff member before getting repeatedly pummelled in the head by the irate employee.

Worker Erika Chavolla has spoken to the woman who originally filmed the video, expressing her shock at how popular it became on the internet, The Daily Mail reports.

"That s**t was crazy, it went everywhere," she said, adding that she had seen negative comments posted about her size.

"I wasn't even going to hit her. When there's a big girl coming towards her, she started freaking out."

Ms Chavolla told Ms Dayag she has been allowed to keep her job at McDonald's, but the company has begun an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for the company told The Daily Mail it does not condone the behaviour depicted in the video and the local police have been contacted.

The other woman in the video has been identified as Sabrinah Fontelar, after she posted screenshots of articles about the fight on her Instagram and gloated.

She claims to have been charged with battery over the fight.
