Prince Charles, Prince William snubbed Trump on UK visit - report

It's no secret US President Donald Trump's visit to the UK last week was far from controversy-free, but reports now suggest members of the royal family snubbed the leader of the free world.

Mr Trump's stopover in the UK was blighted by a number of negative headlines - from ferocious protests in England and Scotland, featuring a huge inflatable baby in his likeness, to breaking of royal protocol while meeting Queen Elizabeth.

But now it has emerged that the US President would have met two other members of the royal family - Prince William and his father, Prince Charles - if it weren't for the pair's reportedly intentional snub.

A source told The Times they had expressed wishes not to be involved in Mr Trump's visit ahead of time, adding it was "very, very unusual" for the Queen to meet a world leader by herself.

"This business of Prince Charles and Prince William not being there for the Trump visit was a snub," a source told The Times.

"They simply refused to attend. It's a very, very unusual thing for the Queen to be there on her own. Usually she is accompanied by somebody."

Meanwhile, 10 Downing Street says the absence of the two princes had more to do with Mr Trump being in the UK on a working trip, rather than a state visit.

A government minister said Prince William and Charles "might have had a view that they were happy not to do it, but it is not true that it was on the cards and they refused to do it".

The Queen's time with Mr Trump was notably brief - just a 30-minute tea time. Visits from previous US Presidents were much longer, with Barack Obama's in 2016 encompassing both lunch and dinner.
