'Ridiculous' Trump baby balloon under threat

A woman has vowed to pop the infamous Trump baby balloon, but is having trouble getting financial support in case she's arrested in the process.

The balloon, first used in protests in the UK, depicts US President Donald Trump as a snarling baby, complete with nappy and a cellphone - a reference to his controversial use of social networking site Twitter.

Last week an anti-Trump group successfully used crowdfunding site GoFundMe to raise enough money to bring the blimp across the Atlantic, raising more than US$23,000 in just nine days.

But one of the President's supporters wants to take the wind out of their sails - and the balloon.

"I'm tired of people disrespecting our President! I plan on taking out this ridiculous balloon," Kathie Kitt Conklin wrote, in an attempt to raise US$1000 on the same crowdfunding site, GoFundMe.

The money was to be used to post her bail should she get arrested, but GoFundMe removed the campaign, telling local paper the Asbury Park Press it violated the site's terms.

She started another campaign, which was also removed.

"I don't want to talk to the press," she told the Press when they called her. "They always twist things."

Mr Trump has called the media - with a few notable exceptions - an "enemy of the people" and "fake news".

The Press noted the state in which Ms Conklin lives - New Jersey - doesn't have a cash bail system anymore.

She may have her work cut out for her though. A second balloon ridiculing the former reality star, this one depicting him as a jailbird - literally a chicken wearing a prison uniform - has been making its way around San Francisco Bay, near Alcatraz.
