A woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison for killing her father after she found his child pornography collection, which included images of herself.

Barbara Coombes, a 63-year-old English woman, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing her father with a spade and burying him in their back yard, reports the Guardian.

Ms Coombes had been gardening at the Manchester property she lived in with her father when she found his stash of child pornography.

Among the explicit photographs of young children and infants, Ms Coombes found photos of herself.

While Ms Coombes said her father, Kenneth Coombes, had allowed men to take pornographic photos of her as a girl and raped her hundreds of times, the Guardian reported it was seeing naked images of herself as an infant that triggered Ms Coombes to launch her deadly attack.

She committed the offence in January 2006, but only came forward to police when officials insisted they saw Kenneth Coombes.

In the years since, Ms Coombes told her family her father had suddenly died and been cremated; but she didn't tell authorities, continuing to collect his benefit, which amounted up to nearly NZ$370,000.

Judge Timothy King reportedly said he didn't accept Ms Coombes acted in self-defence, but did understand she was suffering from PTSD from a result of "40 years of extreme mental, physical and sexual abuse", when she killed her father.

The court heard that Ms Coombes had no friends and was treated as a slave by her father, who possibly also fathered her first child, which died after birth.

Authorities have uncovered the body of Mr Coombes, a World War II veteran, who would now be 99-years-old.
