When a United States couple's birth went wrong, the father was forced to step up in the most heartwarming way.

Wisconsin mother April Neubauer was struggling with high blood pressure throughout her delivery when she suddenly had a seizure. She was rushed into an emergency Caesarean section, and then taken away for treatment and recovery without even having held her baby.

In her absence, her partner and new dad Maxamillian Neubauer took responsibility.

"A nurse came out with our beautiful baby girl. We went to the nursery, I sat down and took off my shirt for some skin-to-skin time," he told the BBC.

"The nurse said we needed to get her a little formula and do some finger feeding, just something to get her started.

"Then the nurse asked if maybe I would like to throw a nipple on and do some real breastfeeding. Me being a big joker with the ability to try just about anything once, I said sure, why not."

A suction cup fake nipple was attached to his chest with a tube linked to the baby formula.

"I've never breastfed or even thought in a thousand years I would. I was the first to breast feed the baby!" he told the BBC.

"I felt a connection the minute I saw my little girl. I got to hold her and help her get use to breastfeeding I hope."

He shared the moment in a beautiful post which has now gone viral. Images show the baby sucking on the teat, while its little hands clasp Mr Neubauer's chest hair.

So precious.
