Forty-eight people have been killed and a further 67 injured after a suicide bomber attacked a tuition centre in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul.

"We can confirm the attack was caused by a suicide bomber on foot. The bomber detonated himself inside the education centre," a police spokesperson told AFP.

It's believed many of those killed were students taking extra tuition to prepare for university entrance exams.

No one has yet come forward and claimed responsibility for the attack.
