To visit his paralysed wife, a 98-year-old war veteran and devoted husband walks over 10 kilometres to a New York state hospital.

Although he is offered car rides to the hospital, Luther Younger prefers walking - something he has always loved and attributes to staying alive, his daughter Lutheta Younger told Spectrum News.

But now he is walking a different path, one that leads to his wife of 50 years, Waverlee, who has been in hospital for the last two weeks as she suffers from the brain cancer she has had since 2009.

The loving husband said it had been "a rough pull", but he was committed to a woman he said was his everything.

"I ain't nothing without my wife," said Mr Younger. "She's the best cup of tea I ever had.

"She would come in and kiss me and say baby and feed me in the bed."

Despite all the attention Mr Younger is getting, he said all he cares about is seeing his wife get better.

"I can't stand to see her up there like that."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with hospital expenses and the cost of rides to and from the hospital - but Mr Younger is determined to keep on walking, rain or shine.
