Police are searching for an Australian driver who was photographed smoking from what appears to be a glass meth pipe while behind the wheel of her car.

A man saw the incident and asked his wife to take a photo of the woman as she travelled on the Kwinana Freeway near Perth on Saturday afternoon, 7 News reports.

They thought to look over when they saw her swerving across the road, according to media reports.

Upon pulling up next to her, witnesses say they saw the woman use a green lighter to heat the bottom of the pipe.

Police are using the picture to track down the driver, and a number of West Australian politicians have now condemned the act.

Premier Mark McGowan told 7 News after seeing the photo it was one of the most "insane things" he had ever seen.

Some social media users claim they have seen similar behaviour involving drivers smoking questionable substances behind the wheel, news.com.au reports.
