A new UK based survey has found people are now using their daily commutes as part of their working day due to Wi-Fi on public transport.

Researchers in the UK surveyed 5,000 people commuting between London to Birmingham and London to Aylesbury across a 40 hour working week.

Of those surveyed, 54 percent said they used on board Wi-Fi to send work emails. This figure rose to 60 percent when faster Wi-Fi speeds were available.

Respondents said the time was used for catching up on work before and after the working day.

Those respondents who didn't use Wi-Fi work said the time was utilised to switch roles between workers to parent.

According to the Daily Mail, Study co-author Dr Juliet Jain says this blurs the line between work and home life.

Dr Jain says if the time was counted as work time it would mean there would be a stagger in peak travel times for commuters which could be beneficial.

However, it would also mean employers would want to be able to control and watch the work that was being done.
