Hundreds killed in worst Southern India floods in a century

At least 350 people have been killed in what's being described as the worst flooding in Southern India in a century.

With more rain on the way, the death toll is expected to rise further.

As many as 800,000 people have been displaced from their homes, and officials are now concerned about disease being spread in emergency relief camps.

Boats are being used to rescue people from streets that are metres under water, with many perched on rooftops to keep safe.

Heavy rain that started at the beginning of August has triggered the flooding and landslides, and officials say it's the worst flooding in Kerala state in a century.

The Indian Navy is rescuing whole families using helicopters, and say food and medicine is desperately needed.

Authorities are prioritising getting clean water to those most in need.
