Indian woman pulls abandoned baby from storm drain

A woman who pulled an abandoned baby from a drain in India has been labelled a hero.

The woman, named only as Geetha, heard the baby crying and pulled him out of the storm drain in Chennai.

The footage has gone viral on social media, where people have praised her heroic actions.

Geetha gave the baby to police, India Today reported and he was later taken to a chilren’s health facility.

Geetha called the boy Suganthiram' (freedom in Tamil) as she rescued him on Independence Day.

He is expected to make a full recovery.
