A Washington state man has won big after following the advice of a fortune cookie.
The man told lottery officials he discovered three fortunes inside a single cookie recently, and decided to follow two of them.
"Buy a cookie. All your financial troubles will soon be solved," it read.
The man followed through and bought a lottery ticket, initially thinking he'd won just $125.
He soon realised he'd missed a few zeroes and his fortune was in fact US$125,000 (NZ$190,000).
"Who knew my day would be turned upside down by the message on a fortune cookie," he told officials.
He added that he planned to celebrate by spending some of his winnings on a sushi dinner.
