A Scottish man who mysteriously disappeared, leaving his wife terrified and sparking a widespread manhunt, has been discovered alive - married to a new wife in the US.

In July, Malcolm McGregor told his family he was going to visit a relative just a short distance from the home he shared with his childhood sweetheart Cheryl Cowie. However he never returned.

In panic, Ms Cowie reported him missing and police began the frantic search to return him alive to his wife and two children.

But just days later, Mr McGregor posted wedding photos to Facebook showing he'd flown more than 7000km to marry a new wife in Utah.

It's left Ms Cowie extremely upset with her former partner.

"It's just awful. It must have been devastating for Cowie to see those pics," a friend said, quoted by The Sun.

"Malcolm and Cheryl are childhood sweethearts. They've been together for over 20 years - they met at school. They have two kids and seemed like the perfect family.

"But all of a sudden he just upped and left. It's crazy what's happened. They just don't know what has gotten into him - it's just so out of character.

"To say his family are devastated is an understatement."
