Alcohol recalled in Australia after possible chemical contamination

Eight different alcohol brands have been recalled across states in Australia due to a possible chemical contamination.

Bottles of vodka, bourbon, whiskey, rum and gin were all recalled by food service wholesaler GJ Wholesale from retail liquor stores in New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT on Tuesday, Nine News reports.

The pulled brands are 700ml bottles of Verushka Vodka, Mississippi Bourbon, Los Cabos Tequila, Yachtsman White Rum, Mudgee Rum, Barman's Choice Whiskey, Hunter Brandy and Her Choice Gin.

The New South Wales Food Authority has advised customers they may injure themselves if they consume any of the alcohol.

"Consumers should not consume these products and should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund," the authority told media in a statement.

Anyone with concerns about the recall is urged to contact GJ Wholesale.

The alcohol contamination scare comes in the wake of needles being discovered embedded in strawberries, bananas and now an apple in Australia.

An Australian man was hospitalised after swallowing part of a sewing needle that had been shoved into a strawberry, prompting a police investigation. It's believed a disgruntled ex-employee is behind the fruit sabotage.
