BBC presenter Rachael Bland has died at 40, almost two years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

On Monday, Ms Bland tweeted that she only had "days to live".

Ms Bland was told in May that her breast cancer was incurable, and two months later learned that it had spread through the blood system to other parts of her body, according to the BBC.

A tweet sent from her account announced the news, say she "died peacefully this morning surrounded by her close family".

Ms Bland worked as a BBC presenter for 15 years, most recently for Radio 5 Live.

She also hosted the You, Me and Big C podcast about cancer with Deborah James and Lauren Mahon.

She was also writing a memoir for her two year old son Freddie "to share all the stories and advice I would have given... but won't be around to do in person".
