Elon Musk renews attack against Thai cave rescuer

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has doubled down on his attack against a member of the Thai cave rescue team, calling him a "child rapist" who "took a 12-year-old bride".

There is no evidence to back up his allegations against 63-year-old Vernon Unsworth, who aided the two-week effort to rescue a football team in Chiang Rai in July, and he denied the accusations through his lawyer.

Mr Musk made the bizarre allegations in a series of emails to a Buzzfeed journalist.

In one email he wrote: "I suggest that you call people you know in Thailand, find out what's actually going on and stop defending child rapists, you f**king asshole."

He then claimed Mr Unsworth had moved to Thailand "for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time", but provided no evidence.

The tirade came in response to questions from Buzzfeed about Mr Unsworth's threat to take legal action against the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.

It's not the first time he's attacked Mr Unsworth. He referred to Mr Unsworth as a "pedo guy" in a tweet in July, after he called Mr Musk's contribution to the rescue operation a "publicity stunt".

Mr Musk has since deleted the tweet and apologised for it.

In regards to the lawsuit threat, Mr Musk told Buzzfeed: "I f**king hope he sues me".

He also defended his role in the Thai cave rescue operation. He supplied a copy of a letter from the Thai prime minister which thanked him for his help in taking a mini submarine to the rescue site.

In an interview with CNN, Mr Unsworth said Mr Musk's contribution was "a PR stunt" and "had no chance of working".

"He can stick his submarine where it hurts," he said.
