A teenage boy has been rescued at sea after 49 days adrift in the Pacific.

He was working on a fishing platform when its mooring snapped in a storm.

Aldi Novel Adalah,18, survived on the fish he caught and cooked. He cooked food using wood from the raft, and caught rain water and even strained sea water through his clothes, CBS reports.

He lit a lamp every time he saw a passing ship - more than 10 times in total - but no one responded until after three weeks, when his vessel had drifted over 3000km from Indonesia to Guam.

It was then authorities rescued him and took him to safety.
