A Melbourne journalism student at Monash University is taking his school to court after he failed an assignment.

Masters student Chinmay Naik was failed for assignment on the negative stereotypes of dogs.

Mr Naik, who originally received 12 marks out of a possible hundred, submitted the assignment to be re-marked but that did not see his grade improve enough to pass.

According to court documents from a report in the Herald Sun, Mr Naik claimed the university acted 'unlawfully' by failing to disclose who marked the assignment the second time.

He believes it was re-marked by the same person who had originally marked it.

Despite the markers notes detailing its lack of 'expert interviews' and 'no clear beginning/middle/end/', Mr Naik believes he deserves a 'minimum pass mark'.

His appeal to the Supreme Court to overturn the failed assignment is just the latest in a long line of attempts, having already seen submissions to the Australian Prime Minister's Office, the Human Rights Commission and the Ombudsman all rejected.
