In South Korea, all men must serve a period of two years in the military before they turn 28, and there are few ways around it.

Notable celebrities aren't exempt from the strict rules, although a handful of aspiring singers are trying to find a way out of it.

A military investigation found that 12 students from a Seoul university tried to pack on the kilos by eating hamburgers and pizzas five times a day in order to fail the physical exam, according to the Korea Herald.

The students would drink high-calorie protein shakes and drink high amounts of aloe juice to retain water weight.

Men who score lower than four on a seven-point scale are deemed unfit for active duty, and assigned to alternative programs.

The investigation suggested the men were hoping to be assigned to alternative programs as they would have time to sing after work.

It found that of the 12 accused of draft-dodging, two had already served their alternative programs, four are currently in progress and the remaining six had not yet enlisted.

If found guilty, the men will be forced to serve the mandatory two-year service, including the two men who have already completed their alternative programs.
