Joe Biden has ruled out running for the US presidency, at least "at this point".

Mr Biden, who served eight years as Vice-President under Barack Obama, has long been touted as a potential runner at the 2020 election.

Mr Biden was speaking at an event in London and said there were many Democratic candidates who could beat current president Donald Trump.

"I think there are many people in the Democratic Party that can beat Trump and not a single aspiring candidate that I can think of at the moment - and I am not one at this point - does not have a better understanding and formulation of American foreign policy than President Trump," Mr Biden said.

Previously, Mr Biden has said he would wait until after November's mid-term elections to make a decision on any potential 2020 bid.

Mr Trump, who has confirmed he will seek a second term in office, has described the prospect of running against Mr Biden as a "dream".
