A Kiwi MP in the British Parliament has been caught up in a hilarious exchange with a Scottish MP whose accent he could not understand.

New Zealand-born Sir Paul Beresford, the Member of Parliament for Mole Valley in England, received a question from David Linden of the Scottish National Party.

Mr Linden wanted to know about disability access on a northern estate.

It seems pretty standard for an elected representative, right?

Well not for Mr Beresford, who wasn't able to understand due to Mr Linden's strong Scottish accent. He had to repeatedly ask the questioner to ask his question again.

"I'm sorry. It must be something to do with my Antipodean background. Could he please repeat the question, because I didn't follow it?"

It finally got to the point where the Speaker suggested the question and answer be put down in writing.

Mr Beresford, a dual British-NZ citizen, was born in Levin and studied Dentistry at Otago University before moving to the UK in the 1970s to work at the National Health Service.
