Melania Trump supports #MeToo - kind of

US First Lady Melania Trump has offered qualified support for the #MeToo movement - saying that men also "need to be heard".

She says women who accuse men of sexual abuse should be supported - but so should the men being accused.

Mrs Trump told US TV network ABC on a trip to Kenya that both sides need to be aired.

"I support the women, and they need to be heard. We need to support them. And, you know, also men, not just women," Mrs Trump said.

"You need to have really hard evidence that if you accuse (someone) of something, show the evidence."

Challenged on whether that view didn't support women in today's climate, Mrs Trump hit back.

"I do stand with women - but we need to show the evidence.

"You cannot just say to somebody, 'I was sexually assaulted' or 'You did that to me' because sometimes the media goes too far, and the way they portray some stories, it's not correct, it's not right."

Her husband, US President Donald Trump - who has himself been accused of sexual assault by several women - has said it is "a scary time" for men, such as newly appointed Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh - who also faced allegations from his past.
