An survey by the International Bar Association has found that half of all women in the industry are victim to bullying, and one third experience sexual harassment in the workplace.

The responses, which came from more than 5000 lawyers in 120 jurisdictions showed that when complaints were made, employers were generally incompetent in dealing with them and in three quarters of cases, the perpetrator went unsanctioned.

The survey also found that in 62 percent of cases of bullying, the victim resulted in either leaving or intending to leaving the work place.

In the case of sexual harassment, this figure stood at 36 percent.

The survey also found that four out five people would not report a case of harassment for fear it would damage their career.
