US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has resigned from her position.
President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation.
In a meeting with Mr Trump in the Oval Office, it was revealed that Ms Haley would depart her position at the end of the year.
Mr Trump said she had done a "fantastic job" and hoped she would would return at some point.
She ruled out running for the presidency in 2020, instead saying she would campaign for Mr Trump at the next election.
Mr Trump announced that he had a "big announcement coming up with my friend Ambassador Nikki Haley in the Oval Office".
Ms Haley was confirmed as US Ambassador just four day days after Mr Trump's inauguration in January last year.
Ms Haley has been serving as temporary president of the UN Security Council for the past month.
