Technology has made leaps and bounds in recent years, with the not-so-distant idea that robots may work alongside humans in the workplace coming ever closer to reality.

However, the latest robot breakthrough looks more like fun rather than fear.

A video has emerged of a robot dog dancing around to Bruno Mars' 2014 hit 'Uptown Funk'.

Engineering and robotics company Boston Dynamics released the video on Tuesday of their latest creation, robo-dog SpotMini, showing off his dance skills.

The chart-topper himself could arguably be impressed with the robo-dog's moves, who jumps and jives in time to the beat of the song.

The world has had mixed reactions to Spot, with some Twitter users ruling out the technology.

"Spot the robot dog dancing to 'Uptown Funk' is simultaneously both terrifying and hilarious" one user wrote.

Another simply wrote: "Humanity is doomed."

SpotMini is designed to pick up objects and open doors in the home or in the office and can run for 90 minutes on a charge. It is set to go on sale in 2019.
