Watch: Trump slams Democrats, brags about Kavanaugh confirmation

United States President Donald Trump has gloated about beating the Democrats after Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed.

His remarks came on Saturday night (local time) at a Kansas rally, just hours after Kavanaugh won the Senate vote 50-48 and was sworn in.

Mr Trump laid into the Democrats over their opposition to Mr Kavanaugh, and praised those senators who "refused to back down in the face of Democrats' shameless campaign of political and personal destruction".

He also praised the week-long FBI investigation in Christine Blasey Ford's allegation that Mr Kavanaugh assaulted her when they were both in high school, which he denies.

Dr Ford claims a 17-year-old Mr Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and groped her at a 1982 party, when she was 15.

"That week was a great thing because it showed no corroboration, no nothing," Mr Trump told the rally crowd.

Hours later, he told reporters he is "100 percent" certain that Dr Ford blamed the wrong person for her assault.

"There is no one with a squeaky clean past like Brett Kavanaugh," he told the crowd.

"He is an outstanding person and I'm very honoured to have chosen him. We're very honoured that he was able to withstand this horrible, horrible attack by the Democrats."

Alaska centrist Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski was the only Republican candidate who refused to cast a 'yes' vote.

Democrat Senator Joe Machin - who represents West Virginia, a traditionally Republican state - voted against his party, in favour of Mr Kavanaugh.

The political fallout of this saga won't be known until November 6, when all House members and more than one-third of US senators will be up for re-election.
