A young Perth family of three have been seriously injured after a tree crushed their tent in a freak accident.

Max and Brenda Robin and their three-month-old baby were celebrating their nephew's first birthday at a campsite near Dwellingup, Western Australia with other family and their two dogs.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, horror struck when a six-metre pine tree came crashing down on their tent, killing one of their dogs and putting their baby in an intensive care unit.

According to Channel 7, the tree came down so hard it shattered into pieces.

One of their dogs, Corona, was able to escape in time, but their other dog Mila was not so lucky.

On a GoFundMe Page started to help with medical costs, they wrote that it had been the biggest challenge of their lives.

"Our daughter will need 24 hr monitoring, for at least a month, which we won't be able to provide on our own. We were prepared for life with ups and downs in the west but definitely not for this. So with our hearts broken, we are reaching out for a bit of help."

According to the page the couple were preparing to relocate "back out west" but due to the severity of their injuries neither of the couple can work for the next few weeks.

The couple have been discharged from hospital, despite their injuries, so they can be with their baby who is in a stable condition.

Authorities believe the strong wind and rain the day prior was what caused the tree to topple.
