Twelve people have been killed in Southern California after a gunman opened fire in a crowded bar.
Authorities believe the former Marine with a history of mental health issues then shot and killed himself.
Among his victims was a deputy sheriff, who was called a hero by his colleague Geoff Dean.
It brings the number of mass shootings to 307 in 312 days.
